RESEARCH (WFD)

 Countries (WFD)

A few weeks ago I did some research on a few countries that were related to the recent World Food Day!

I did research on countries in South Asia, like India or Pakistan!

I learnt that recently in Pakistan, 65% of its main food crops - including 70% of its rice - had been swept away by floods, and 3 million livestock had died. At the time when I did the research, the UN delivered aid to about 1.6 million people.

Also, I searched about food shortages in these countries, and here was what I found:

Because Ukraine is being attacked by Russia, Ukraine cannot export wheat/grain anymore. This hurts a lot of countries like Indonesia and India.

Oil prices are also skyrocketing.

The share of undernourished people ranged in 2019 according to data from the World Bank:

Laos - 5.3%

Indonesia - 6.5%

Vietnam - 6.7%

Myanmar - 7.6%

Thailand - 8.2%

Philippines- 9.4%

Southeast Asia’s MPs are urging ASEAN economic ministers to immediately tackle the food crisis.

Due to the pandemic and the War going on in Ukraine right now, inflation is becoming a big problem. Also, Ukraine, which is one of the main producers of grain are unable to export any of its produce.

The average inflation rate in ASEAN went from 3.1% in December 2021 to 4.7% in April 2022, compared to 0.9% in January 2021.
