BOOK REVIEW!
At the moment I'm in the middle of reading a food-related book!
I chose "the Secret History of Food" by Matt Seigel!
So far I've read about 50 pages and I'm enjoying it! The book focuses on the history of the food we eat every day. Food whose origins you never really thought about, like Apple Pie or Honey! Like, What made us humans even THINK to eat honey??? I find that concept really funny and genuinely interesting, so I'm really liking this!
I will update this page as I progress through the book :)
Honey seems a bit like a "no brainer" to eat because it's sweet, delicious, and doesn't need to be processed (like konnyaku, yam cake, for example). However, it must have taken a lot of courage for the first "primitive" humans to attempt to gather honey because it meant that they had to fight bees for it. I've seen videos of indigenous people in New Guinea harvesting honey by accessing bee hives on high cliffs, getting stung multiple times in the process. That really takes a strong will to satisfy one's "sweet tooth."
ReplyDeleteI look forward to hearing more about your book.
